In the month of February, our character education trait is courage. Inspired by the book Courage by Bernard Waber, our bulletin board reflects the ways in which we are courageous.
Using the prompts "I think courage means..." and "What courage means to me...," the students inserted their own personal ways of showing courage. From sticking up for our siblings to swimming underwater, the third grade class thought up some pretty creative ways of how they show courage. Inspired by the illustration in the book where Waber illustrates with pen and uses bright watercolors, the students then used pencil to sketch out their picture of how they show courage. After they sketched their illustration, they used black pens to outline their picture. After they had completed those steps, they used watercolors to paint their illustration.
